Life at Brighttail as an SEO Lead

In the world of digital marketing, search engine optimization (SEO) plays a crucial role in determining the success of marketing campaigns. Yet, many marketers don’t truly understand the role of an SEO specialist.

Many think that SEO is solely about keyword research, keyword optimization, and link building. They have an impression that SEO is just the science of manipulating keywords and link building to increase the site’s ranking on search engines.

The reality is that only those who are part of a SEO team will understand the nitty-gritty of this field and the copious amount of effort required to ensure the website performs well.

To understand the role of an SEO specialist, let’s meet Samuel Phua, the SEO Lead at Brighttail.

Say hello to Sam!

If I were to describe my day as an SEO Lead in one word, I would say it’s packed. It generally involves me training, supervising, and conducting regular 1:1 check-ins with my team members to discern their progress and identify blockers. I also conceptualize SEO strategies and SEO audits for our clients, in addition to executing on-page optimization like tweaking page titles and meta descriptions.

Fun fact: Sam is still trying to get over his arachnophobia (fear of spiders)!

Additionally, I also perform off-page SEO efforts which include building backlinks to pump up the clients’ site authority as well as outreach to other websites.

Despite my hectic schedule, I love SEO as it requires me to have both a creative and analytical mind. I need to be able to write SEO-optimized descriptions as well as analyze data to produce reports that will allow us to ascertain the performance of certain campaigns and content assets.

Ever since I joined Brighttail in February 2021, it has been a continuous learning journey for me. My manager has been instrumental in helping me get where I am today. Upon my confirmation, she sat down with me and created a professional development plan (PDP), in which my goals and the time allocated to achieve them are penned down. This is excellent as it helped me realign my mind to focus on my goals, both short-term and long-term.

With that, I would say Brighttail is an excellent place to be if you crave growth and career development. In fact, there will be plenty of opportunities carved out for you to achieve that.

Another great thing about Brighttail that I appreciate is its flexibility. We are given liberty to roll out new, innovative ideas that we think could be beneficial for the clients. Even if the plans fail to produce the desired outcome, we as a team learn from it and improvise our strategies for future projects.

This to me is a great environment to be in as I’m not reprimanded if my tactics fail, but rather encouraged to improve my methods.
